The National Occupational Health and Safety Commission – NOHSC (now Safe Work Australia) Code of Practice for the Management and Control of Asbestos in Workplaces [NOHSC: 2018 (2005)] requires all managers of residential, commercial and industrial buildings operating as a workplace to hold an Asbestos Register and Asbestos Management Plan on site. The code is supported by the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation in most Australian jurisdictions.
Local Councils require a submission of an Asbestos Survey Report or Hazardous Materials Survey Report (HAZMAT) for buildings constructed prior to 1990 as part of a Development Application (DA) documentation.
The OHS legislation require that removal of asbestos is undertaken in accordance with the Code of Practice for the Safe Removal of Asbestos NOHSC:2002(2005).
