The Work Health and Safety Regulation requires a person with management or control of a workplace to ensure (Must Ensure) an asbestos register is prepared and kept at the workplace unless:

The Work Health and Safety Regulation requires a person with management or control of a workplace to ensure (Must Ensure) an asbestos register is prepared and kept at the workplace unless:

  • the workplace is a building that was constructed after 31 December 2003; and
  • no asbestos has been identified at the workplace; and
  • no asbestos is likely to be present from time to time.

The asbestos register is a document that lists all identified, or assumed, asbestos in a workplace. SESA Asbestos Report including the Asbestos Register is presented in a structured easy to read and to understand format and complies with the requirements of the WHS Regulation.

Content of the Asbestos Register in the Asbestos Survey Report

The asbestos survey report prepared by SESA include the following sections:

  • Executive summary
  • Introduction covering the scope of work
  • General site and survey information/methodology
  • Survey results (including material assessment results) tabulated in the Asbestos Register with photographic references
  • Conclusions and actions
  • Certificate(s) of Analysis
  • General Information on asbestos legislative requirements, exposure health risks and control methods.

What Information the Asbestos Register include?

The asbestos register contained in the asbestos survey report includes the following information in tabulated format:

  • Location of ACM (eg. Building identifier, floor number or level, room identifier and position)
  • Description of ACM and product type (eg. Fibro sheeting, limpet insulation)
  • Extent of ACM(Quantity)
  • Level of identification of the ACM (presumed or identified with sample number)
  • Type of Identified Asbestos (chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite)
  • Condition of ACM / surface treatment (Good (sealed/painted), Average (eg. faded paint), Poor (eg. Deteriorated, damaged, debris) – potential fibre release
  • Friability (Bonded or friable)
  • Disturbance Potential/Accessibility (eg. Daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Risk Status (Low, medium, high, very high)
  • Labeled or not
  • Inspection date/Re-inspection date
  • Recommended Action (Short term & long term action required to control any potential release of asbestos fibres such as access restriction and removal, sealing/encapsulation or just ongoing monitoring of conditions)
  • Photographic references.
